    Default Rotary Heads....Big HELP

wel lads. going to pick a 13b rotary engine and box up for my rx7 this sunday. the man that has it boght it as it sits today and was putting it into a mazda mx5. but not going that route with it anymore. he is unsure of when it was rebuilt. and hasnt had it running since he had boght it. is it worth the gamble in buying it??? what would be worst case, would it all be fucked. or could it any bits be salvaged off it atall. comes as an engine, box with inlet mani and exhaust mani. no turbo but that doesnt matter. he wants 500euro for it. a right old bargain if it does run. sein as a standard engine without gearbox sell for upwards of 3k.

    any help apreciated.

I know nothing about rotary engines, but i'm pretty sure that a 13b in almost any condition would take less than 2,000 to get running right.

for 500quid it sounds like it's worth the risk.

As long as the pistons are there and the timing belt was done recently it should be sound

That sounds good, AFAIK, when those engines are fucked its usually down to the Apex seals, so the block and rotors should be salvageable. Though if he hasn't had it running, I'd be assuming it's fucked!!

guess its just a gamble to b quite honest. more than likely something wrong with it. but the owner cant confirm if its fucked or not as he hasnt seen it running, he boght it and never got as far as putting it into the car. he said it was from an fd. comes with gearbox. so if i could save the gearbox, rotars and housing it would be worth it. and build it from what is their. gona make a phonecall to eddie doyle and see.

Even a good second hand engine makes 1200 - 1500 quid man... A rebuilt engine will cost you 3k

LennyS13 yeah thats the one. supose its too much of a gamble Kruizer. could be buying it as scrap metal. and with the cost of a rebuild would be better to stay well away from it. so im gonna pass on it.

rotaries are easy enough to build if you get an engine for cheap like your are getting....maybe worth doing a full overhaul...

apex seal wear is possible of course but water and oil seals being in good condition is also important....with engines sitting up for years these are usually prone to drying up and cracking....
