Default Fuel gauge faulty? Wiring Q

The fuel gauge on my s13 ain't working so just looking for some obvious checks before I open the tank up to check the sender unit.

Can I send power or ground the "sender" wire to rule out a cluster problem first? If so which wire?

Just incase it could be related the temp gauge doesn't work either as it has a Yasiho digital gauge, could this have something to do with it?

    Thanks in advance.

No hassle bud. I wonder are both gauges linked some how as my temp gauge ain't working either.

Any one with a few helpful tips before I pull the car apart.

You can check the resistance of the level sender with a multimeter,
Pull off the plug at the tank and measure between a ground on the car and looking into the plug with the clip part at the top it's the middle pin (second from the left) on the bottom row of the plug.
On the plug coming from the tank obviously..
You should get between 8 and 82 ohms,
8 ish ohms full and 82 ish ohms empty,
That'll rule out the sender in the tank without having to pull it out anyway..

    Thanks a million for that

Don't fancy opening the tank if I don't need too.

A simple problem that it might be is the empty petrol light could be blown or a Gammy led light in there.. the gauge works off resistance of that light..

    Thanks gonna check that too.

Funny one really driving the car all day today. And the gauge moves ever so slightly, from below the line to an 1/8 of a tank????
