Having used the S14 last year for a few trackdays it was time to get it upto spec for Prodrift 2010 and having gone over the cost's in my head to match the plan i had for it, money and time were neither on my side so i bought this wide-arch red 180SX from Jonny-b in Mayo, previously built by Dennis Healy!
So this is the car i'll be competing in this year and representing driftireland and with a bit of luck hopefully getting through my first year in Prodrift! Myself and Darragh are planning on sharing the car at as many practise days as possible too!;)
Also, BIIIIIG thanks to Dave at Japanese Performance (http://japaneseperformance.ie/) for sorting me out with sponsorship this year!
So, seen as i bought the 180 as a rolling shell, i'm using the engine from the 14 as its a good healthy lump with in and around 350bhp (once i have it mapped again!)
Few pics of the garage first!
Si's red Trueno infront, Nixon's Sil80 on the left,
Grey 200sx to practice welding and general pricking about with
and then the beast herself in the right hand corner!!

Right so, here's whats been going on in the garge!!
Thanks to Gem, the two of us pulled the engine out and while doing so found quite a
substantial hole in my intercooler piping, however long its been running
like that is anyones guess but i dont know how i didnt spot it, as i made sure to protect the piping
where it re-enters the engine bay but anyway, least i know for next time!

Next was a job i wasnt too familiar with.. BODYWORK!!!
I had to do something with the rear arches to run the car low enough with the 18's
First side was a bit rough so didnt take many pics!!
Thankfully it'll be covered with an overfender!

UPDATE number 3!
Seen as i'm relocating the battery to the rear of the car,
i had to do something with this mess here!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0785.jpg
So a quick chop
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0788.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0792.jpg
Welded new plates in
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0808.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0814.jpg
And all sealed up
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0825.jpg
Next job was to block off the holes not beed used in the bulkhead
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0833.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0834.jpg
So i made this shape
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0836.jpg
And welded it in
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0842.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0848.jpg

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0855.jpg
Next was a clean an quick spray of the engine bay
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0860.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0863.jpg

Because i'm using GTR front tenson rods to allow
more clearance on the wheel turning in,
i had to cut and shorten them slightly!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0715.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0716.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0717.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0724.jpg
I then cut the large solid "bushes" to move the tension rod all the way
to the inside to give even more tire clearance!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1062.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1063.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1068.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1070.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1071.jpg
Fitted the DW's offset rack spacers to stop the steering going over center
and they also extend where your tie-rods bolt onto your rack so the tie-rods
i previously lengthened are now no use to me!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0932.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1052.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1053.jpg
Fitted KTS adjustable tie-rod and track rod ends so i could move
the rose-joint of the track-rod up or down, counter-acting
bumpsteer and hopefully allowing for more lock!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1051.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0883.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1054.jpg
Willis then modified the lock-stop on the lower arm
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1083.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1087.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1090.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1092.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1094.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1093.jpg
Its still not finished as we havnt had the car on all four wheels yet
and we need to do more modifying as the track-rod is now in a
different place because of the modified hubs!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1140.jpg
Then relocated the brake pipe mount's so the wheel doesnt catch it
on full lock!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1098.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1102.jpg

I then made an easier way to adjust the rear DW's camber arms!
So i got the main threaded bit
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1004.jpg
And chopped a suitable bolt
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1006.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1008.jpg
And put them together
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1014.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1016.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1029.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1030.jpg
Decided to go for the rear adjustable lower arm too!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF0925.jpg
And the back end finished!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1038.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1039.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1044.jpg
Willis then made a bracket to hold the pull cable
for the cut off
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1103.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1104.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1107.jpg
I then P-clipped the hydraulic handbrake lines into the chassis leg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1108.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1110.jpg
And fitted DW's braided brake lines
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1137.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1172.jpg
New ACT paddle clutch and prolite flywheel
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1111.jpg
And finally the engine ready to be put in!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1113.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1117.jpg

UPDATE TIME!!
I'v added a few pics to the end of page one too!
Well after missing Rd.1 Fermoy i finally got the car finished for Rd.2 Punchestown
and did my best to steer it as it wasnt set-up properly, only just about pointing straight!
But was happy to come away with 1st in Amateurs in my first ever competition!

Rd.3 CityWest!
After Rd.2 i knew the car needed some testing time so i played
around with the wishbones and tension rods to get optimum lock from both
the leading and trailing wheels, and once the 17inch Grid Drifts became
available i went for a quick spin to Tullow to make sure it all worked!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/Me%20Drifting/tullowtesting-1.jpg
Was happy with the car so back to the garage for some cleaning, stickering
and repair a little damage from clipping that damn cone that Chris loves to wave
at me!!! Just for you Chris, some of the cone stuck in a rivet!!!

Having had a terrible practice day on Friday, i hit the wall on my first run and damaged another wheel,
but on Saturday i just cleared my head and hit the first corner as fast as i could and managed 1st again
in Amateurs and finished 4th in non-Seeded Pro, so that allowed me to advance to Sunday to compete with the Pro's!

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/Me%20Drifting/rd3citywest12.jpg
I didnt have a great day on Sunday, i just couldnt seem to drive the same way
i did on Saturday but i was still delighted to compete in the Pro's in my Second
ever event!
Here's a pic of the team event, i destroyed my front bumper trying to qualify for the top 16
and then crashed AGAIN into the barrier in the team practice quite badly!
Damaged a 3rd wheel, lost rear bumper, rear window and the whole corner of the car!
But i got the hammer and cable-ties out and battled on!!!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/Me%20Drifting/rd3citywesttrain.jpg
CityWest was an amazing weekend, from the spectators, drivers and Prodrift crew,
everyone loved it and had such a great time!
Here's a pic of myself and Mark Synott (2nd in Amateurs) on the Podium with Chris Brady (He's not suppsoed to be there!)

Rd.3 CityWest damage!!!
Having hit the wall twice over the CityWest weekend the car suffered quite a
bit of damage! I hit the wall that hard that it pushed the boot over and smashed
the rear window on the drivers-side!!

The thinking begins..
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1397.jpg
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1398.jpg
So Willis got the ratchet straps, tied one end from the car to a pole
and the same on the other side of the car, tied to the fork lift and we began
to "stretch" the car back to shape! That along with alot of hammering it began to take shape again!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1396.jpg
So now we're just left with a whole where the lamp should attach, keep an
eye out for more updates very soon!

UPDATE TIME- CityWest damage repaired!
Going back to Citywest this was how the car looked
when i had finished driving that weekend!
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs138.ash2/40218_10150242989425632_746540631_14021470_7999191 _n.jpg
So after assessing the damage back at the HQ we decided that the only thing for it was to
drop it up to Gem Synott (http://www.driftireland.com/member.php?u=702) as his bodywork skillz are second to none,
and he's extreeeeeeemely reasonably priced!
Off we went upstairs to cut the quater panel off the donor S13 we have
aswell as the passenger window which broke during the impact!

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1511.jpg

I decided not to change the bootlid as chances are, it'll only get damaged again quite soon!
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg122/jamierockett/180SX%20build%20thread/DSCF1774.jpg

Thanks Gem!:D
Aswell as repairing the car, i found that the turbo was about to die at a show we had a "drift" display at!
So thanks to Dave at Japanese Performance i fitted a HKS 25-40 turbo and
Robbie at TrackDay Performance for mapping it on short notice, its now
running a healthy 350bhp and 360lb/ft torque!
The crack in the exhaust housing and serious shaft play:p

Rd.4 Mondello Park
Mondello was an EXTREMELY wet event on the saturday and i
wasnt in the mood to be damaging the car, especially as there isnt any barriers
to keep you on the track in Mondello like previous events and i had only spent
the last while getting the car back to shape!!
But i was fighting the same battle as everyone else and even as i thought
practise was going good, it wasnt untill my first qualifying run had ended to find Gem was beating me!
So i tried pushing extra hard in my 2nd run because i CANT let Gem win... But he did!
Have to congratulate the big man for some awsome driving through-out his twin-battles
narrowly loosing out to Declan Munnelly!
So i finished up 3rd in Amateurs with Gem taking the win! Some pics of the rain!

Sunday was a great days drifting, and because it was JapFest a few di members
got out on track for 20mins drifting.. That was crazy, especially when i caught
up with Gem and the two of us raced down the staight initiating before the bridge and somehow
getting around the next 2 corners together at ridiculous
speeds.. If anyone has vid's, please post them up as i have yet to find one!!
