As some of you may know i'm selling my car iv had loads of offers but notting serious.
I received an email from a guy offering to pay the asking price by paypal and once cleared he will arrange collection and shipping to his country.
So I'm wondering has anyone had any experience with this?

I rang paypal and they said its not advisable because the payment can be reversed and i risk losing out on the cash and the car!
so iv decided against that.

really im looking for anyone elses experience/opinions or options?

The payment can only be reversed if it remains as an electronic sum, if it's transfered from paypal to your bank account and then pull it out in cash it's yours to keep !!

does this work? what if there is money in yer account? like would u need to use an empty account to do this? i az got millions always worried about selling shit, like i sold them wheels to italy, and whats to stop him , opening a claim an getting his money back?

get them to pay a substancial deposit via paypal and when they are collecting the car get them to pay the full amount in cash and then refund them the deposit on paypal, simple.

My uncle sold a car a month ago to France via my paypal.

At first obviously I thought it was completely dodgy but then I couldn't figure out how it could be, I mean how can the money be reversed if you do everything above board?

I know it sounds dodgy and there is a fair chance it is but I'm unsure how it works as a scam with paypal. Once you have the money in cash in your hand, you let the car go, for it to be reversed the buyer would have to open a case with paypal, and if you have done everything above board, ho could they reverse the payment?

Take it from me, do not take the payment through paypal, take a deposit of a couple of hundred by all means, but you want to get all the money in cash when they come to collect the car

It's just safer

No it doesn't work, if there is no money in your paypal account paypal will immediately put you in the red for that amount and come looking for the money back. You could put up your own argument but trust me Paypal are a law to themselves and when its the value of a car would you really want to take the chance that you would win?

Definitly a scam! As suggested i asked for a deposit by paypal and cash up front on collection, he declined and backed out!

@driftescort Was this the email address he used? thidek0001@gmail.com

Can someone explain why paypal would reverse it? What reasons would they have?

I know a good few people have been scammed this way already but I never really understood it. If payments could be reversed why would anyone sell using paypal.

My judgement is obviously clouded as we asked the buyer to come and pay cash and he said he was afraid to bring that kind of cash with him. So he paid half the price of the car through paypal and paid the rest in cash on collection.

Sure if he is coming over to collect the car just tell him to pay the whole lot in cash when he gets to you. Best way in my opinion. If he is not willing to do that then he is just wasting your time.

Wouldnt accept pay pal when buying a car either. especially not abroad.

For all you that get those kind of messeges be aware that letting the car be driven on the IRL plates can be illegal too if the buyer wont handel insurance on that particullar licence plate in his country/ EU ...... the seller would be responsible for the whole shit that could happen.

well but that shoulnt mean that everyone abroad pm ing you is a d*ck.

people on here might dont understand that its very very hard to find a 180 S15 aristo silvia basically all rhd jap imports outide of the UK

i actually would only sell the car cash to someone

ive done that too ..... registred the irish plates for travelling abroad on my name... and basically took an airplane to dublin and bought the car cash at the airport were i meet with the seller. After that we drove the car to the ferry and drove from france back home to germany. And now the tranny is broken.... shit happesn xD

also only give them them the information about the car that they need to regiter the irish plates not more.

most country will have to use that method because you cant drive trough france with your own ones .... also includes short time plates

to sum shit up dont let people scam you let the buyer ship you copys of flight tickets and so on and only sell cash with a ENGLISH sell contract dont sign any paperwork that is written in a other language.

Have sold cars to the uk, France and Germany. A deposit by paypal or into the bank is fine, then cash on collection etc. You'll get an idea yourself whether person is genuine or not.

I sell stuff on ebay and use paypal all the time. I've been caught by their clause a few times. If you send an item regardless of whether it arrives or not but u don't have the parcel tracked the buyer is free to say they did not receive it and you haven't a leg to stand on. Paypal will automatically side with the buyer if the seller does not have proof of delivery. Using paypal your basically appealing to a buyers good nature not to shaft you. That's how they work for their transactions.

Only a matter of time before we're left with just seeing passats and A4s on the roads and nothing else as it'll be all shipped off to Norway, Germany and France etc :(

I got the money lodged into my bank account when my sold the PS13 and R34. I was skeptical at first but both guys were sound. If your in any doubt do what Nikki said and get a deposit and collect the rest upon collection

That's a fact, especially at the rate things were being exported at. It's only a matter of looking in donedeal to see there's feck all supra's/skylines etc left.

Well be left with the shite the Europeans don't want before long!

Will be our own fault ....... we are a bunch of animals when it comes to cars. Maybe our european neighbours will take care of the imports better than we did!!

Amen to that, bar a few exceptions in general Irish cars get wrecked. Roads don't help either.
