... while I wait for the RX8 to come back. Kieran a mate of mine wanted a hand with his MK2 MX5 so I said why not, started off with simple plans so here are the pic's :

The base, 14" alloys, coilovers and splitter :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0001.jpg
Decided to clean up the headlights :

http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0003.jpg
And get her into the garage to roll the arches at the rear :

http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0007.jpg
Next up was flush out the reflectors, boot lock using fibreglass matting, 50/50 mix of filler / fibreglass and then filler for the final coat :

And the licence plate holder :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0014.jpg
Then decided to fit electric leather RX8 seats to the car :

Got bored with that so finished off the bumper and primed it :

And got a pic of the wheels off Kieran :

Cool centre cap :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0025.jpg
Adapters on to fit the 4x114.3 :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0026.jpg
This will be tight :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0027.jpg
Yep, too tight on crap tires, time for new tires before I roll teh arch anymore :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0028.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0029.jpg
Car has got fangs but looking cool all the same :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0030.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0031.jpg
Time to wire the seats, balls :

http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0033.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0034.jpg
Time to do a little more bodywork, flush the wings, prime them and the boot lock flush :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0035.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0036.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0037.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0038.jpg
Repair the splitter :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0039.jpg
Paint the fangs red outta boredom LoL

Cleaned up the front panel to see how good the paint was under the grit :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0041.jpg
So while I was waiting on tires I decided to piss about with the centres :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0042.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0043.jpg

http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0047.jpg
Even Romeo had an auld gander :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0048.jpg
So a quick text to Kieran and it was decided to expand the build a little :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0049.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0050.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0051.jpg
Some MK1 arches that will need to be modified to fit properly :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0052.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0053.jpg
And out with the grinder to give another 3" of clearance :
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0054.jpg
http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu5/Kruizer_666/Stanced%20MX5/0055.jpg

whats the end result for this going to be?

They are a very tight fit, if I was to do it again I'd use the cloth version...

Dunno about the end result as plans keep changing everytime he sees the car LoL

Ah ya he has some good ideas and I needed something to do otherwise I would have both another bloody project and the RX8 wouldn't be finished until next year...

You should see it in person, camber is way to aggressive on the rear, will definitely need something changed there...

I reckon I'll have to do something with the front lights, they are a bit pants, might fibreglass up some one off lightbrows or something and split the lenses painting the inside black...

I'd love to and if it was any other mx5 other than an rs I probably would but it would be a shame to take out a perfect rs engine like the one that's in it, plus il probably be keeping this mx5 as an everyday car and the rs will be cheaper/easier to run than the rx8, I do short trips to work which wouldn't be practical for the rx8 and I won't be afraid of putting high mileage on it traveling between cork and limerick. I don't know, would really finish off the car alright, make some job of it but don't think il be able to do it/afford it :(

God no fella, the painter is going to the Nurburgring tomorrow for a week so that rules out japfest for sure. Probably be more towards the end of the month tbh.

For the most part I'm done now with the car, back bumper is primed, corner pieces from the spoiler are primed up, over fenders have been refitted to make sure they look right. So she is sitting pretty waiting to go to the panel beater tonight. The car will get a full shot of debeers 2pac primer and then block it all down before paint...

Generally finished in work by 4pm, home and fed by 5.30, watch Top Gear on dave till 6pm and out to the car then, wrap up about 9pm to meet herself when she finishes work, walk the dogs, cuppa and off to bed. Nice simple routine for the weekdays :D

There won't be many updates on this for a few weeks unless I get cracking on the Dori's but I've other jobs to do on my own cars at the minute so I dunno.

She should be back from paint by the end of the month so it'll be nice to see the end result :)

Ya the seats are big in it alright but budget was a thing so he just wanted to upgrade from cloth plus they are wired for adjustment and heat now so he happy out, if funds were there it'd be Brides or Recaro's :)

Guess there is no point asking you would you sell the Doris?

No I seriously doubt it, he gave big money for them and the fact that they have the centre caps makes them worth even more...

Split the wheels to drop the centre's out for paint (TVR Purple) got a look at the challenge ahead. Due to flipping the centre's for more dish the inner linner is cast and has alot of pits in it so bring up a good finish will be hard enough :

Right so I haven't had much to do with this recently and I was reluctant to start on the wheels having given one a quick attack while I had the car. Anyways they needed to be done so I used a mix of compounds that I think has given the best results. the problem with reversing the dish is that the inner dish is of a lower grade material that the outer dish. When you sand the dimpled surface away your left with pits in the metal, kind of like stone chips on paintwork so to cut past that level of imperfection you really have to dig into the metal, the hardest part of this refurb is getting past all the imperfections in rge metal itself first. I have 3 wheels done however I am only half way throught the 4th, once they are all cut back I'll begin the preparation sanding for polishing however to get to this level was with a 60 grade !

Oh your red ones i ment the purple ones, thats what i wanted to buy when you where selling them for your mate, they look a bit mexifush your red ones on the s15 haha, Na looked into that there isnt enough material between the shoulder to hold the wheel nut so if i milled a bit off the wheel id have nothing to hold the wheelnuts, so thats ruled out, gonna try and get adjustable lcas and pull in the track width a lil.

Lights would be nice blackened out alright but like Brendan said their shocking bad as it is, forget what bulbs are in it but must improve them first, I have a spare front light so if I can get the other side I might blacken the spares and try them out

ali-d1936

it dosnt actuallt affect the lights at all you just paint the silver that faces forward, not anything the light reflects off,

here is a write up i did for my golf,

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q171/ali-d1936/golf/IMAG0319.jpg

so to celebrate i said id go cooking.. my headights ;) did this before on the Civic so said it has to be the same setup for the golf
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q171/ali-d1936/golf/IMAG0298.jpg
90* for 5 minuites remove clips and pull away the glass from the plastic housing,
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q171/ali-d1936/golf/IMAG0297.jpg
sand the area you want to spray and mask the rest and give 3-4 coats of matt black spray paint
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q171/ali-d1936/golf/IMAG0300.jpg
finished:
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q171/ali-d1936/golf/IMAG0304.jpg
then just stick in the oven again for 5 minuites and push the glass back into the plastic the silicone will later set and stick back to the glass

and how it looked finished:

Haven't updated this in awhile, been busy trying to get the 2 mx5s ready for japfest in Castle Combe in 2 weeks, the white mx5 needs a de-tar, good clean and wax, re-shine up the wheel lips, fit new front lights and sideskirts. The blue mx5 needs a lot more though, have a friend doing most of the work on this, engine is currently out of the car to fit a new rear crank oil seal, new sump has been fitted, custom low profile lights are being made up and will need fitting, arches need a massive roll and flare to fit new 9.5j 14" alloys and side skirts need fitting, also need to fit a new ecu
