Jap plate is on the list, and lowering it properly, trying to figure out how to stiffin up the rear end abit so it stops killing my arches!
Adding in an extra bump stop or two for a start, and them rubber blocks that you fit into the coils for towing, they might do it too?!

Blew up another set of rear tires last week(dam camber!), and the only tires lying around were massive! So now it looks like a bloody drag car! So because of this I'm not using it!!
Got abit bored today sitting at home and the credit card started winking at me, so ordered a few we bits that should make it abit faster!

itl sound good though and make flames :D
itl sound good though and make flames :D
It does alright pop pop bang!
Have most of the parts together now to get it turbo'd.
Its taken so long because I didn't want to go down the rout of buying a premade kit, with a piggy back ecu, I wanted someting that could have the potential of getting alot of power if I wanted.
So anyways here's the parts list so far that I'v gathered!
T25 Turbo
Cast Manifold
Braided oil feed, return, and all the neccessary fittings
550cc Rx7 Injectors
Inovative Motorsports Lc-1 wideband sensor, with controller + Gauge
Megasquirt pnp standalone ECU, Installed and running sweet
Boost controller + Gauge
Intercooler piping
With the above setup Im in and around the €1800 mark!! Oh God, although every part is brand new bar the Turbo and injectors.
Still need to an intercooler, and then I'l be pretty much sorted.
Hope to install the 550's this week, and get the car running on them, then I'l strap on the turbo and start tuning!!
Will hopefully be building a cage for it this week also, have the steel there, just need to get my finger out!
feck, thats expensive haha! what about that small front mount nixon has, would be ideal for a 1.6?

Got a proper tunerstudio program, which is proven! Wont give you an amazing tune, but it will give you one thats safe and works.
In the process of fitting the wideband 02 at the moment, just welded the sensor bung into the exhaust, have to do all the wiring now! waaaaah
The ecu connects via a serial, but I`m using a usb adaptor which is working well, installed all the programs ontot the new toy, cant wait!

sounds like a barrel a laughs... ye was thinkin that laptop didnt have serial port on it... baha:cool:
actualy, what exhaust you using?? with that being the number one thing to change on any turbo car!
And yeh, if you can get it safe then fair enough, id just prefer to get the max fuel economy and power out of my efforts!
martin tracey for example, fitted an ecu, new filters and a decat to a gtr...and it lost power.haha

Me and Jay tackled the wiring for the wideband O2 sensor last night, serious amount of work involved!AH, but all is good and working!
Then today, Jay fitted the Hydro, sits in nice and cosy, and works great, while I wired the wideband into the ecu, and programmed them both together.

From the sounds of it you're planning on taking this drifting? From my experience its definitely a must to look into some sort of extra lock if you are as it really is terrible when you get out on track, plus also the shimming the diff idea seemed to work perfectly on mine. Stupid camber, shit i.e. no alignment, and no bucket seat all certainly didn't though lol!!:D

I've been drifting this car for the past year! I know all about how shit the lock is on it! Its landed me into a few kurbs, a fence and last night a ditch.
Stupid camber helps me, no power, means I need no grip!
And you say the shims worked, may give it a go so? How thick were the one's you used?

Tbh I kind of mean on track. I had actually thought on the road it was ok. Not amazing but manageable. It was only when I took it to the track that I realised how bad it is. IMO there is nowhere on the road that you will have to transition basically from full lock one way, to full lock around a hairpin another way. It multiplies the shit factor by alot, and really makes you hate the little shit shoebox of a car....
Main problem with the camber for me and stretch was that the rear tyres kept popping off. Thats largely due to the grates in Portlaois though I'd imagine so probably be alright anywhere else.
Shims. Well they were only fitted saturday. But they seemed to work fine at the drift day. Who knows when they'll wear out or what will happen over time, but for the moment it seems to be spot on. Feels like a 2way/welded. Cant remember off hand how many was used etc, but will find out for you as soon as I can.

Oh I've loads of places where you can transition from lock to lock! I finish work at 4am in the morning, so Iv the whole country to myself! I've been meaning to just throw in a few spacers, did it with the beemer and it worked well.
Defo going to give the shims a go, because I really don't wanna blow up the diff by welding it!
Did a few more calculations and have the fueling dropped down so the car isn't flooding. Got my acceleration enrichments throughout the entire range just right, also got my cranking pulse widths spot on for all the temps. So shes mint!!
Oh tuning is fun!!
So since the car was running well I decided to start the build, pulled off the old maniflod and downpipe, and have been eying up the new mani and turbo. So should get a good bit done over the next few days with any luck in between my shifts.
A bit of progress at last today, been busy with work so didn`t get much done over the weekend.
But today I got the oil feed fitted, and also drilled and taped the sump and fitted the return.
Finished off the welding on the manifold, just have to do some grinding and throw on a bit of paint and then bolt it up.
Tomorrow I should have the turbo modded to fit my exhaust.
Almost there, but going to run it without the intercooler for the moment, dont have time at the moment to fit it.

I was too cheap to tax the Golf, So I ended up taking the turbo back off this, as it wasn't finished and have been using it for the last month. Got a new cheap runaround, a wee polo, so hopefully I'l get back at this again soon!

And my garage is in Wicklow town! Doesn't look like I'l be able to get it to the garage until after Christmas, as the snow out here is still mighty! Ahhh, very frustrating, as I'm doing alot of nights at the moment, so all these idle days could be occupied with turbo'ing!

I'm not doing the full map, just getting it running, which I have done now for the new injectors, the rest is getting done right.
Ordered my clutch today. Should have that next week, when it will be shipped off to have the cage built and clutch fitted.
My clutch arrived last night along with a strut brace slam panel and tow strap. Also have the new boost controller there too.
So it's booked into doctor gems next week where he's going to go nuts on it.
Building me a cage, doing the clutch and maybe even doing the turbo work too, then it will be off to get mapped and she'll be good to go.
Hopefully get out to a few practice days with it soon enough!!
really interested to see what the cage turns out like. You getting a weld in one I presume? Also where'd you track down the rx7 injectors from. Seem to be the most common and best solution alright. Just primary injectors off a FD is it?

ideally I wanted to wait for roco to build one, but he's not going to be back for another while, and I'd be confident enough with hems fab work to let him loose with it. It will probably be a bolt in if I get my way, but we'll see how it goes.
I got the injectors off a private sale on dworks cost me 200 euro, rx7 fd tubo 550cc are the ones to get. No need to get A bigger pump with them.

Yeh was hopin for roco myself but I'd say he'll even be booked out when he gets back. So will see how you get on. Yeh high impedance 460 or 550 rx7 ones seem to be the way to go. Have a warlbro anyway. Just missed out on 550 ones for 70 dollars in the US. Gonna keep searchin anyway, last piece I need to figure out I think

Yeah the 460's will be fine if you already have a pump. Is it a 190 or 255?
Im just going to give Gem a shot at the cage and see what happens! Should be grand, going to start with a decent rollbar and supports to start with and then build the front section onto that.
And I see you joined up on Miataturbo, great site for getting info, they know there turbo'd miata's. Some seriously clever guys. You just have to work your way though there American high and mighty anti newby attitude!

I'm actually not sure whether its a 190 or 255. Was in it when I got it, will check when I get a chance. Got 550cc's there anyway (purple top late series FC turbo ones seemed to be the ones I saw recommended most? Probably the same anyway) and alot of other stuff so starting to make progress myself.
Keep us updated on the cage anyway. Will be interesting to see. You going to build it the cage to competition spec while your at?
Miataturbo is good alright. Actually signed up to it Jan 2010 so on it a good while, just never posted. From reading I knew what kind of response I'd get, but getting my ECU sorted for hopefully about E440 delivered with IAT sensor out of it, a good link for the wideband, aswell as getting to find out 90% of what I needed, so didnt mind the attitude lol! It served its purpose......and I think I'll just go back to hiding on it for the moment!!:D

That's a very good price, mine ended up costing me a good bit more than that by the time it was delivered and the customs got there share of it! More like 900euro.
They recomend the 190 for the miAta as the 255 tends to kverfuel them abit, but once you have an anyway decent pump then you can afford to get aller injectors, I went for the big ones as I'm sticking with the standard pump.
Car is going up to gem tonight to get the turbo and clutch done, and if funds allow I'll get the cage done at the same time, although it's going to get mapped next week if all goes well so I may keep some money for that too!
Just jap have also offered up a good deal on modifying my hubs for some lock, so the car will also have to go over to them for a
few days too at some stAge in All this.
Stuff is finally starting to come together now I think!
Apologies for any spelling mistakes, writing this on the phone is a pain!!
Not much work has been done on the car! So no pictures yet, gems come up with a plan in his head forthe roll bar.
Also order a flange for the elbow, so we can make up a full custom exhaust!
Pretty much just doing everything. Can to the car!
Timing belt there to be done too.
And the most important part, going to collect a torsion diff prop and half shafts from a 1.8 on Sunday!
It's been a none stop shopping spree for the car for the past 8 months, I'm afraid to actually add up how much I've spent!
One more thing, got a classic policy on it, fully comp for 300, happy days!!
Love what your doing with this car, its gonna be proper badass when its done!!
Theres a dude on driftworks selling a cusco 7point cage from his eunos, dunno if you already seen it but heres the link anywho..

The poor car looks an absolute state at the moment, filthy dirty, little gay wheels, full to the neck with parts!! Can't wait to get it back on it's game, cos it was a dam cool car back then!
And the classic policy, I have third party rxtention to cover me driving the car, but then there's no insurance when i'm not in it, and also no insurance disc, which can be a pain at checkpoints, so my brother who's 26 got it, so now it's fully legal
Small update!
Alot of work has been done over the past few days by Dr.Gem.
Very happy with the progress.
Diff is almost in.
Clutch is almost in.
Turbo is almost on.
Intercooler piping is almost complete.
Love the way it sits nice and high for all to see!!
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r60/twail/photo-3.jpg
Great being able to get rid of the horrible afm and have the filter straight onto the turbo, might not bother with the filter at all!
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r60/twail/photo-9.jpg
And a few of the interior, all this stuff was done by myself and jay last year.
Wideband and controller, bitch to wire!!

http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r60/twail/photo-5.jpg
Megasquirt pnp ecu, been running the car on this in standard form for awhile now!! Its almost time to unleash its potential!
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r60/twail/photo-7.jpg
The wand, fitted by me,jay and willis last year!! In fairness to jay though, he couldn't drive a nail into a soggy turnip, but the lad knows how to plum in a wand! Took less than 5mins to bled. Literally!

And my lovely sparco! Served me well over the years!

really starting to like these an this is a very inspiring for me because im maybe thinkin of buyin one when i get the money but just wondering whats the insurance like on one of these because im 18 soon n i hope to have my full licence before im 18, would you say it would be possible to get insured on a 1.6 one of these if i had my full n was 18?

Not a hope of it mate to tell you the truth. Im 23 with a full licence and no claims, and they said I'd have to be 30 before they'll insure me. So I got a classic policy with this and my Gti on it! And then the normal policy for the Merc and open drive.
Also a small update on this. It has now been moved to a new secret location, where the remainder of the work will be completed!
Guess where??!!

I was told the same as the car wasnt in my name, but I'm going to get my dad to vrt it and try get a classic policy on it. Dont know if thats possible though as its a 93! How old does a car have to be to get a classic policy?
The cars looking great man!
Booked in for mapping next Wednesday with Joe from tdr performance. Same guy who squeezed out 240bhp from Brians Mx!
Can't wait!!

Good stuff!!! No better buachaill than Joe for it too. Cant wait to see what you get. I suggest some decent tyres though as mine just kept spinning lol!
Also forgot to give you back the turbo gasket. Didnt spot any DI heads about on the sunday by time we arrived. If you wanna pm us your address or something I can post it on to you. Never used it in the end.

Yeah can't wait. Although I'm not going for big power, only want between 200 and 220! Don't wanna push it much more as it's a road car and will get alot of use.
Although I've been looking into building an engine on the side over the next few mOnths an then going for more powers!!
Just back home now with the car outside on the trailer ready to go for mapping bright and early in the morning. Having some issues though, cant select 1st, 3rd or 5th. goes fine into 2nd 4th and reverse. So just the forward selections.
Took out the selector and cant even get it to select them manually. REALLY pissed about this, as all was going so well up to this point. Really burst my bubble, as I was getting excited about finally having the car finished, as I started buying the turbo bits a year ago!
Going to go up to the dyno anyways, all thats needed is 4th really. But really need to solve this soon!

I'm only getting around to doing this now, but here's a few pic's
i took of the work myself and Bob did, turbo-charging Tim's MX5..
First up is the Intercooler bracket Bob made
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2284.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2282.jpg
On the car
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2290.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2289.jpg
And bumper in place!
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2288.jpg
Next Bob fabricated a Turbo Elbow and Downpipe from scratch..
Tim supplied the flange and Bob made the rest from sheet steel
using a grinder and welder, as our equipment at the time was limited!
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2296.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2297.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2301.jpg
Turbo Elbow complete!
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2303.jpg
Wedges tacked to form the bend needed. As there was so little room in the
MX, the downpipe had to have several bends to allow it to fit down the bulkhead
and between the tunnel and gearbox!
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2315.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2317.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2326.jpg
Fully welded!
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2332.jpg
And here it is on the car..
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2349.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2354.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2362.jpg
Fit's perfectly!
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2338.jpg
It's hard to show how tight it was but it fitted without any interference or risk
of hitting the car, engine or gearbox so happy days!!:D
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2339.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2343.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2347.jpg
Bob then welded a flange to the end of the Downpipe once we were happy
that it was in the right place!
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2365.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2368.jpg
Just about fits between the tunnel and gearbox!
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2371.jpg
Next he made a reducer to fit the exhaust flexi-pipe
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2381.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2383.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2385.jpg
http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m495/JayRockett/Tim%20MX5/DSCF2392.jpg
And then welded the middle section of the exhaust, including the bung for the
Wide-band Sensor
