Hello Everyone,

Decided to start a new Project Thread as next years M3 will be pretty much a whole new car. The car in 2011 was nothing short of Epic and bar a few little problems was the best car ive ever drifted to date. Besides the Exhaust, few trick bits with the Suspension and the cage etc, she was a completely Standard car, Standard Engine, Standard Clutch, Standard Bushes etc........

2012's car, will be a lot Different, with Slight Engine Mods, Clutch, Bushes, Weight Saving, Strengthening and a few other bits. Will also look a lot better and not be painted with a brush :) I also have plans to try keep it legalish for some road driving too, although highly doubtful. Anyway, enough chat, below is how 2011's car will end and how 2012's car will begin. :) Will update as i go along, should be a little more entertaining than last years "Project" :)

Not really lad....just simplistic this year :wink:

Haven't done a tap yet, car is still on the trailer as im waiting on getting a shed.

Time for an Update.......

Moved into our new and first shed on thursday and got cracking on the housmate, Niall's m3. Just stripped interior etc. Friday evening we started at my 2011's car, stripping panels etc and getting engine and axle ready to be dropped out today. Niall went mad with the grinder and got the cage out and keith got down and dirty under the car. We also drank copious amounts of tea :) Tomorrow we will finish stripping few small bits out and the shell goes to the scrapper. Will start prep work on the new shell this week.

The bushes and mounts on the car were in a bad bad way, the front subframe had actually given way from the engine mount. Also the rear bushes were all fucked.
The exhaust was also cracked at the downpipe back, so alot of unknown work to be done.

Huge thanks to Niall Mac and Keith N for their help(Doing most the work) all weekend, pot noodles on me :P Few Pics below, will update during the week.

Shit! Thought nobody was looking.......

Suprised how quickly we got the engine and drivetrain out. Awesome getting to work indoors this year. Some great craic already being had..... lets keep the foot down and plough on. Now the fun starts with making everything shiny new, adding some shiny new parts and a few "innovitve" (exhausting google seach engine and stealing idea's).

Oh.... We need to fish that wheel off the trailer out of the sea too.....

Time for an Update i Guess.....

Well over the last month we have put down some serious days and evenings and got a good bit done, still seems like it will never be finished tho. Keith has been unleashed on the wiring, man has the patience of a saint, never seen so many wires in my life. Engine bay is ready for some seam welding and some paint. Removed the abs pump so going to do up some new lines this week and will be ordering my new clutch and flywheel this week too. Gave the Coilovers a clean tonight.....wasted an hour or so anyway :)

Once i fix the front subframe, which has fallen apart at the engine mounts, il be throwing on some solid mounts and the engine and box will be back in. Rear subframe and arms will be getting some new bushes and a lick of paint too. Also been gutting the doors, bonnet and boot and will be cutting some polycarbonate windows very soon. All going well the car should be fairly complete by our deadline, the 26th of feb :) Anyway, enough talk, have a few shite pics of progress......thanks for looking

Update Time.......

Been another few late nights, early mornings and finally we are on the putting back together road. Have my new act 6 puck clutch & lightened flywheel on the way, big thanks to SC Autoparts for that. Have a long list of parts for Mick Barry in Barrys Motorsport to give me so money permitting the car will be finished in less than a month.......fingers crossed.

Welded some new plates onto the front subframe as one had broken away where the engine mounts sit, very surprised at my welds, weren't bad for a lad out of fas 9 years. In saying that they aint unreal :) Doing solid rear subframe and diff mounts tomorrow so all going well will have subframes painted and mounted by the weekend. Did a lot of gutting, doors, quarters, boot floor etc, boot floor weighed a lot more than i thought. Got some seam welding done on the from tubs, thanks Maurice, nice crack and cut out the tubs for some room on lock. So the bay is ready for paint also, should be done and ready for M power by the weekend :) Anyway, enough chat, few pics below......thanks for looking

Been doing a lot of boring shite lately, prep work and painting. Also solid mounted the rear subframe but took no pics for some reason.

Here is the engine bay, tubs cut, seam welded and primed. The engine was meant to go in this weekend, but the crane(forklift), was locked away. So will be done asap.

Decided to paint the front & rear subframe and arb's red, to match the cage etc and also to piss Niall off :)

This is how the interior sits now, not much done, just the steering column in etc, will get the dash and switch panel in as soon as the engine is in.

When we dropped the engine out we discovered the flange at the downpipe to exhaust had cracked off and there was no flexi pipe on the other pipe, so tacked one in place and once matched up, gave it a weld.

My new act clutch came a while back from Sc Autoparts, seems like a good bit of kit but i guess i wont know until its abused :) Also done away with the horrible dual mass flywheel. Now replaced with a single and lightweight one :)

Also got some powerflex bushes for the rear trailing arms and front wishbones. Also some nice 5w30 oil, lovely stuff :) Got some spherical rosejoints for the rear hubs during the week and some oem gearbox bushes.

Anyway, got the engine in today......actually did a little dance that it went in so easy and well. Then rolled over my phone with the forklift so cried a little :) So engine, gearbox and prop in, tomorrows work, rear subframe, diff, arms etc........gonna be a busy week.

Safety is always number one in our shed......:P

Update Time...!

Well i made my deadline of the 26th, for a drift practice day :) Got there, drifted but its FAR from finished. Firstly i want to thank everyone who got me there and helped get me on track, Niall Mc, Keith N, Pat Mc, Mick Barry, Eoin H, Steve Coakley, Colum "4 dot" buckley, John Hickey, Nicky & Willie, Anto & Paul and anyone else ive forgotten.

The last few days before the 26th were very late and hard and even in the last few hours with nipples breaking off calipers etc, was an emotional experience :) To say the least.

We loaded the car at 4.30am the morning before the drift day, no brakes bled, no clutch bled, no wipers, unfinished and looking tatty.....

We got to the track at half 8 and after a few hours of bleeding, rolling arches etc, she finally made the track and worked :) Well, it didn't fall apart anyway and gripped and steered unreal :) For a car that was tracked by eye :) So, im happy with it yes, but still loads more to finish, wiring, cage, tidy, paint and more stupid bits.........will update again soon, thanks for reading.

Hey Everyone

Been a while since ive updated this, mainly because i broke my camera and 2 cam phones during the rebuild so gave up on the pics :) Anyway, she is now finished, bar some cosmetics and is logged for PD and will make its first competition outing this Saturday. :)

Hey Everyone

Guess i best update the thread. Well the car now sits on axle stands as i had to give some borrowed parts back, but all going well she will be back to normal next week and got ready for Cork Motorfest and PD round 2. Prodrift rd 1 went well, with the car performing flawless. My driving on the other hand was questionable :) I qualified in 8th out of 70ish and managed a top 16 finish, putting me in 12th after rd 1. Not great, but better than last :)

Next few jobs on the car, replace the parts borrowed and a general tidy. Itching to get out again as i really enjoyed driving her at rd 1, a seriously better car than last seasons.

Time for an update id say....its been a while.

Well project reliable has become quite unreliable it might seem :) After the car running quite flawless at PD Rd 1 in ennis, we got to Rd 2 in Punchestown and unfortunately the car was mising/holding back all weekend. Between Ennis and Punch i had changed spark plugs, fuel filter etc, so we checked those and all seemed fine. We narrowed it down to a broken signal wire on an o2 sensor and possible a dodgy plug, so changed the plugs again and fixed the broken wire. Unfortunately this was all after Punchestown and the car just wouldn't perform for me as you can see in the video below;

So after we got these problems fixed she seemed to perform much better. We took it for a legal road test, also testing the road for an upcoming Drift Hillclimb here in cork, she went very well apart from being very grippy;

So onto a practice day in Galway and she drove very well apart from some bad fuel starvation, which the bimmers suffer from. Road 3 in Fermoy, Cork and as with 2011 i started the day in great form and the car went well, pulling off a second place qualifier. Again, the car was suffering fairly bad fuel starvation, ever though the tank was quite full. I suffered on until on my top 16 battle the gearbox would not let me select 3rd both runs and i lost my battle :( Really pissed me off as i was set for a good day.

But on sunday, Myself, James and John from Team Manfoot won the Team Drift event with some serious madness, second round in a row, winning previously at Punch. So form was good after that :) Check us out here - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Team-Manfoot/181722865226876

With round 4 next month i have a gearbox to collect and fit, and i have also hopefully sorted my starvation problems buy fitting a second pump, deleting the fuel pick up/siphon on the left hand side. Time for an Update:

Well last weekend me and the crew made the long journey to Dungannon for Rd 4 of the Prodrift Championship. The venue, a newly built Oval at Tullyroan. All drivers had seen pictures and video's leading up to the event but nothing prepared us for it, the walls, the surface, the speed, the danger.....all in a days work :)

We had only put a gearbox into the car during last week as it let me down in Rd 3. On leaving the garage we felt something was up with the alternator/battery as the car wouldn't start or hold charge. Anthony from Carraigtohill Auto Centre, checked the Alternator to find it was only sending out 9 volts. So that had to come out and get reconditioned. Took the car for a test spin and all seemed perfect :)

My rd 5 afternoon started out okay, with a few okay practice runs. Then they seemed to get worse and i just wasn't comfortable with the car or the track. Even though the car was running 100%. My qualifiers were disappointing, only managing a 13th place.

I won my first battle against Seamus "De Moose" Walsh as he unfortunately hit the wall behind me. My second battle was against local lad Richard Bradley, who was on serious form rubbing walls all day. I lost out to him due to a few corrections on run one and the fact i hit the wall hard on run 2. That was my weekend over but i really enjoyed it anyway and luckily enough still jumped up to 7th in the Championship with 1 round to go.

Well another season has ended and i must say apart from all the slight problems with the car, i really enjoyed my year. Finished up in the Prodrift Championship in Non Seed Pro with a respectable enough 9th place. Not bad considering the level of driving seen in all classes from 2012. To quote the one and only Kieran Hynes "Theres no Amateurs in Prodrift". Was also part of winning 3 Team Drift Challenges with the most awesome Team in on this isle :)

The car itself suffered some damage over the year but is running 100% and all i will be doing over the winter is some cosmetic bits, including a full repair and respray by a new sponsor i will soon reveal.
