I want to try and find out a bit about them first because i had him plagued about a gt2871r and now i think i want to try something different i know dan champman ran a gx35 on his sr and said it was laggy but when it came on boost it was a different type power altogether to what a garrett delivers he makes out a hx30 would be savage on a sr if its mapped right but he never ran one
Great turbo mark alyward is running one on his drift car.if you come across any for sale drop me a pm as i would be interested in one.

What trucks are using them turbo's???
i have a 10 ton dumper with on it :afro:
What trucks are using them turbo's???
holset are a brand like garrett and hx30 is a size like t3, you can find t3's on deisels doesnt mean itll work very well on a petrol car!!!! theres a load of different spec models! same with hx30 you may find one on a truck or bus thats a hx30 but the specs wouldnt be great for an sr! but u can buy brand new holsets for like 400-500 and get the right one for a farty sr !:p
Brand new Holset Turbo HX35 (650bhp)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I bought a couple of Holsets recently from a Guy who worked for Cummings Turbo Technology.
T3 Divided frame water cooled housing, v-band exhaust, v-band compressor outlet, 4" surge ported inlet, 12cm Exhaust housing.
Requires External waste gate.
It's the one on the left in the next three images (The right one is the HY35 which is sold ).
£400 shipped
regards,
Lyndon.

As good as it sounds I think there could be some drawbacks to using one.

from looking into it i think i am going to go down the hx35 super route

Why so?
As its a diesel turbo and you are putting it on a petrol engine, I think without the right supporting mods it could be quite laggy. Now I'm not slating it, ill be honest and say it does sound quite interesting and I wouldn't mind trying it out but if its so good why arent more people using it??

Fair enough, as I said I'm not slating it at all, find me one and ill strap it to the side of my sr

Hx35s are a laggy turbo no matter what you hear about them. The hx30s are a very responsive turbo with virtually no lag

With having pmed mark about his one he is on full boost by 2900 revs and he said the power is impressive how can i not try the hx30 now and it nearly half the price of a garrett equivilant

Do not waste your time...I have tried them all...Holset Turbos do NOT work well on Petrol engines...LOTS or lag and No power..Stick to garrett...Different league!!!

I can see this being true If Full boost is 0.3bar

I have heard from people that had them fitted to SRs that it was more like 4500. Dan Chapman made like 450 on a built one though and his car flew with one on.

full boost @ 2900 rpm in mine richard. good bit of go in it too.
haven't had it dyno'd yet but i'll put up figures when i do.

as above lad, .9 bar,

dan chapman ran a hx35, there as laggy as fook.

I think what this man says is solid proof that the hx30 works on an sr:wink:
Hx35 .9bar at 3.8k according to my datalog on the link but my engine is a bit different but still a sr20

What size exhaust housing are you using?

0.9 bar is not very much boost to run. When will it get to 1.3 bar.
Robbie
@sideways boy .70a/r I think
@robbie it's not mapped for 1.3bar
If you got to 1.3 bar by about 3500 or 4k revs its not bad like because when drifting you are never under them revs anyway

A hx30 i am talking about just to clear it up

If the turbo gets to 0.9 bar at 3800 then it will be 4500+ before it gets to 1.3 to 1.4 bar. That's pretty laggy unless you talking about a 550+bhp turbo
Robbie
i had boost controller issues when i built the car, so
it was only ever mapped on the wastegate spring pressure
which is .9 bar, im going to get a proper dyno reading in a couple
of weeks when we re-map her to 1.3 or 1.4. i'll get a printout
and post it up for ya.

Yes the hx35 is fairly laggy
If you got to 1.3 bar by about 3500 or 4k revs its not bad like because when drifting you are never under them revs anyway
I doubt I'll hit 1.3 bar at those revs would be awesome if it did cause there is a great pull out of the engine once on boost

Yes that is the hx35 which we are not talking about what we are on about is the hx30 which marks car hits 0.9bar at 2900
I doubt I'll hit 1.3 bar at those revs would be awesome if it did cause there is a great pull out of the engine once on boost
and the noise is epic.

Where did I slate holsets? I just said someone has proof that a hx30 works well in an sr. Im all for holsets. U must have picked me up wrong lad
