View Full Version : 2012 epic/awesome venue search
We need your help!!
In order to expand the sport of drifting and bring drivers and teams new challenges in the 2012 Prodrift Championship, we are issuing a shout out to the drifting community to suggest possible new cool and exciting venues which will be able to hold a drift event and the associated circus.
We are open to all possibilities from car parks, hillclimbs, race tracks to a street course. Local knowledge is key here as we can all look on google earth for ideas.
Examples: car depot in Ringaskiddy, Cork or market square in Kilrush, Co Clare.
Post your ideas here or email us info@prodriftseries.com
All help is appreciated so let the search begin!

What about a big industrial estate like citywest business park?
All these suggestions are all down the south of the country and in my opinion prodrift needs to expand into the north and the west to reach its full audience, like people aint going to travel 2hours to mondello for a sport they know very little about, up my way most lads wouldnt be fit to name a single driver in drifting and the calender this year there wasnt a single round north of kildare wile the south had 2 rounds in fermoy and ennis. I think galway/silgo region definatly needs a round and possibly monaghan town to attract more interest in the sport and bring it to a wider audience, just my 2cents.

Black box in Galway isnt worth looking at tbh, its right in the city centre, behind a cinema, shops etc. Not the place to have D-Mac in the rotary or young McKeever on the limiter basically lol!
Galway race course worth a shout? A while since I've been up there so not sure if the smooth surface is big enough? Worth picking a place thats good to go out in too remember!:D
But feckin hell a hill climb or street course would be amazing! I was hoping to try and get over to Poland next year to do one of their touge events as it looks insane. One on our own soil would be even better. But a H&S nightmare I'd say. Rewards would be in it though as a very big crowd would surely come out!
P.S: Do 6 rounds this year imo!

Right lil hill climb area just outside of Piltown in Templeourem, niggly bends and two hair pins, would be ideal but it just wouldn be wide enough!!

Used to slide down that in the old s15 not worthy of an event though
cork screw is a no go area as there is a hotel at the bottom an your man is a dick is stopping the hillclimb this year, kilrush square is the one the town would be up for it .great surface with big run in

this is prob away out of the leaque but everytime i pass this place i think it would be serious place for drifting...not everyone might agree and the big downside prob being it not surfaced
@ prodrift,,did ye ever think about buying ballybeg quarries (glenstone) it's empty now the high walls of the quarrie would hold in the sound and the place is friggin huge ya could do round 1 and 5 there..or maybe even a extra round or 2 next year if ye did own it cause ye wouldn't have the rent factor. this place is very close to mcn and damien mulvey for those who don't know the place.. so the people of the area know the name darren mc and they know drifting is a serious thing in the area so that could be another plus factor
plus if buttevent hold cahermee..(knackerfest) i couldn't see the people of the town objecting to this
one of the few probs besides the money factor would be the new road layout maybe goin through it.. there would prob be a lot of cons with this but another pro being there is only 2 houses that are anywhere near it
as i said i prob way out of the league but i like thinkin outside the box:rolleyes
sorry i can't embed the images but if someone can please do..link for people not sure of where i on about..images are up close and from distance to see higeht of quarry wall

Normal hillclimb fees are like 150euros or 200 i think?
but would PD have to go by FIA rules? or not?
I presume the guys at Prodrift are looking for help getting something sorted officially and are looking for people who may have some connection with the venues/areas. I could easily come on and say "lets do Dublin airport" but i think more realistic options are being looked for. I think we do need some new venues for next year, really shake it up! I'm on the hunt :)
Has anyone concidered the obvoius, Mondello, but using different sections, I know the guys there would be willing to let prodrift use the back sections, It might mean getting stands and barriers, but thats about it. Some of it would be fair fast

yep hillclimbs are around that price not much dearer than prodrift, drifting used to be cheaper before but then again it had competition with d-rift now the cost of drifting is catching up with rallying its pushing me to think about going rallying,

Yeah! my bro and cousin Hillclimb but are now going rallying instead like where our roots are!
even though every1 wants battles! ive been asking clubs a few years ago about letting drift cars on hillcimbs without having to have a 2ltr licence etc! have times runs while drifting would be just savage!!!
also yeah on the FIA thing! like most drift cars are good enough or not better to be logged as hillclimb or Sprint car anyway!! i think getting the road closing order would be hard because its not with motorsport Ireland? maybe u can do anyway i dont no that 1!

but shor they came on and asked, surely what they wanted is for us to shout suggestions, what else would you get on an open forum!
ive said that about using different parts of mondello before on a prodrift thread, they never said anything about it,theres plenty of other combos that could be used
hillclimb entrys are quite reasonably but there wouldnt be half the organisation as a prodrift event not to mention the huge crowds
If Ennis and Fermoy are both held in marts, which is perfect for drifting with large space, privacy and car parking. Then because almost every town in Ireland has a mart? Surely some are up to the task?:)

Drift days would be great in Tynagh, but as for a PD event I dont think it would work. A venue not only needs a track, but it needs room for a paddocks (not too bad in Tynagh) and also room for spectators cars and to watch. I dont think Tynagh really has anyway of sorting the spectators parking and viewing issue? And without that theres no point in running an event really. Maybe could be sorted though?

most marts arnt that big! like fermoy is an awesome size mart and they need every bit of room thats there for pits/parking/spectators. marts ftw tho :afro:

ya paddock room is ok
they own fields next door , they use them for parking for the big events. theyre level too so no prob wit majority of low cars. earth scrapers would have an issue alright
tynagh will never be good enough to hold a pd event due to the fact the roads are bad and its to far from any major roads,at least rose green and the likes were only bad roads for a short distance

there looks to be a huge carpark just south of leperdstown race course if thats any use.
i also think balla mart in mayo there after spending 3million expanding and upgrading it .

Why not just do a hill climb then?would probably be cheaper than prodrift.
I doubt PD are looking for a carpark or an industrial estate, the country is full of suitable empty industrial estates every weekend.
Citywest and punch are basically carparks but atleast there venues
If PD were to use industrial estates and the likes it wouldn't be very professional imo
As for the ideas of hillclimb drifting and road sections, this would be great to see in ireland but I doubt it will ever happen(legally:wink:) due to health and safety and insurance
As said they should open mondello for 2 rounds on diff sections.
as far as i know carrick motor club are holding a rally sprint out by waterford airport in the coming weeks,
probably estate again but at least people know its used for that too!!

The airfield is a tough one to get, it was tried many times for car shows back when car shows made money. But bantry square would be nothing short of epic, street drifting on the sea
was heading to limerick few days ago and on the cork side of charvelle their is a big massive trruck bay dont knoe name of it now but my god its huge with plenty of parking
That place runs 24hrs a day AFAIK.
is there any way of gettn back into rosegreen?
Tiger kidnap the neighbours
i think prodrift exceeds rosegreen now, i understand the drifting history it has etc etc but imo there is a limit with the way it can be ran track wise... and if im honest i never really like spectating there
Doubtfull, but the Mill in Kilmallock?
If we can get enough support we should be open in the new year, just in talks with the council about noise limits.
For anyone that was there before, the big main shed is being removed so a decent track can be layed out.
Parking/Spectators isn't really an issue.... Pits could be had inside in the main building at the back, as there is electricity going in there.
Also have the offices out the front so that could be the main office for the day.
If we could get someone from ProDrift willing to attend a planning meeting, as they would be able to explain exactly what's needed... To help push it forward. As it's really only 2 people trying to do it, we need a big name to show its a viable idea.

The docks in Waterford - it's split in two by the old grain silos but for the Tall Shippes they created a public path between both ends. Checked it out before with Kearney and Karl many, many moons ago. More than enough room but there would be obvious need for consideration for the rather large body of water beside it ...
lol docked ships as clipping points
Wud be gr8 to have a round up here (in da nort)
Duane mentioned Odyssey in belfast or the docks
Also Bishopscourt..some good layouts there

i also think balla mart in mayo there after spending 3million expanding and upgrading it .
would be a good spot. We really need something in the west of ireland as its not even worth getting into the sport if it means you have to travel 3-4 hours at least to even practise? there is loads of good big places in the west around Mayo sligo galway and roscommon and there is a fortune to be made for someone.
with looking at yesterday and the JDM allstars in the street i think graham ye should really try for something like this...
be epic and prob one the coolest things that will happen for drifting in Ireland...

X2 agree with bart on this, an event like that in Ireland would be unreal
They should make a evening round too, spectators love blinking lights and all that jazz:)
If it would promote tourism in Ireland, I'm sure some strings could be pulled to make it happen.
Live stream is a must for PD also if they want to expand their audience imo

Good potential there for a nice track... Co. Armagh represent!
They've had a rally demo in the car park before to promote the Lurgan Park Rally...

Live stream is a tough one, as it could mean nobody actually turns up to watch. But very good for a global boost to the sport. Maybe stream it an block Irish IPs, although very easy to get around that too.

Looks ace. Where were spectators for the rally sprint?

I doubt it would effect the attendance much to be honest, I know I wouldnt choose watching it on screen over being there anyway, not a hope.
Back on topic, the street would be epic, i'm guessing it would be a nightmare with "red tape" though
lads im up for it ,Galway marina looks nice what ya think .The country needs drift events thats where the young people are at ,ive the where with all all I need is your support

Just around the pathed area closest to the building, big bridge to the left also, so would be a pretty good vantage point.
@Prodrift, this area I mentioned before has since been flattened to just leave raw tarmac, except where the old buildings used to be...

The deerpark tesco in kilarney has a massive car park and doesn't have alot of them steal bollards concreated into the ground. be cool and would promote the west alot.
You'd never run an event there. None of it is big enough. There's too many houses. Not to mention you'll never get a shopping centre to close for a full weekend to run an event for a few thousand people.
wat about the castlefinn track in donegal there are drift days ran at it not sure if it is big enough for prodrift as i`ve never been down at it but am sure some of the rest of uz have
