View Full Version : V-tec Cam Project (ae86 / F20c )
Hey people, I started this project in July 2008 and im as far as getting her wired now. Pics talk better than words....
Part 1
Before hand, 4age on TB's
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Cam%20before/cam1.jpg
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Cam%20before/cam2.jpg
I picked myself up an F20C from a 03 s2K, Bought everything I needed from the s2K, engine box loom ecu clocks and shaft, removed all the stuff meself from the crashed s2K so id have an idea where everything went.
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/DSC00120.jpg
Removed everything from cam, down to a bear shell and tried a quick trial fitment, marking up the tunnel where i needed to cut.

http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/DSC00156.jpg
Next I went and bought some steel and made up a trailed spit for spining my cam around on while i was seam welding her / sand blasting. Had two hubs found an old ball hitch thingy.
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Seam%20Welding/DSC00123-1.jpg
Then bought myself a new MIG welder... and started cleaning the shell off for welding
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Seam%20Welding/DSC00197.jpg
Got stuck into lifting the tunnel to fit my 6 speed :)....
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Seam%20Welding/DSC00198-1.jpg
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Seam%20Welding/DSC00199-1.jpg
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Seam%20Welding/DSC00196-1.jpg
The corner of shed......
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/S2Kengine.jpg
Right then i made up my new subframe and gearbox mount.
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/DSC00176.jpg
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/DSC00170.jpg

http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/DSC00169.jpg
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/DSC00201.jpg
And then sent away me sump to get modified to fit over my now manual steering rack.
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/DSC00146-1.jpg
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/DSC00144.jpg
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt291/ae86f20c/Mech%20work/DSC00147.jpg
Next which was a very tight job, had to extend my exhaust manifold out from the head inorder to allow it to pass down between the chasis leg and the steering rod shaft.

1 hour after the blaster :) left, I had the shell warming up in my panel beaters spray boot.
I had the shell fully cleaned down (Blew out cause ta sand is a fcuker to get outa the small pockets) and brought up to the spray boot in this hour thanks to the help of me friends.
This was done on the Xmas hols of 2008 / 09. S in the same day she was sand blasted she got primed with zinc primer :D
In the spray box,

Yea lad, went abit mad on the shell. But then again its the base of the project so if its not done right then no point having everything else perfect.
Bolted the back bracket into the centre of the chasis legs where the orginal bumper brackets bolt. and the front jus onto the same on the front of the chasis legs. U wouldn't believe how light a shell is when everything is off her.
Makes you see the upside of having fibreglass panels..
