View Full Version : Cage wrap???
I see sometimes people have thier cages wrapped in some sort of material instead of painting it.A bit like heat wrap on an exhaust or manifold but on a cage.

Agreed It wouldn't be worth a shite in a roll just like a sponge.
Why use that when the proper stuff is so cheap to buy comes in all colours too.:D

That's grand if it's a track-only car and you always wear a helmet. If it's a road car i reckon it's worth paying a few quid for proper padding.
I wouldn't fancy whacking my head off a cage if i had a tip anyway.
Like said before
What is your head worth to ya??
i have some of this due soon to me ,pm me if you want some blue in colour

Did you ever feel the right proper stuff that is ment to go on the bar that is at the top of the windscreen it is rock hard i felt it in the rocket bunny 666 car i dont understand how this is going to help you in an impact...

as mentioned in that thread it's also extremely flammable!

The stuff i've seen is soft but a different foam to lagging.
AFAIK it's down to how it absorbs the energy from an impact and, as mentioned, it won't catch fire.
Hopefully none of us will ever be testing it;)

AS i said in an earlier post use armaflex insulation its not flamible ;)
and if your going to have a crash that your hoping a bit of padding on a steel bar is going to save you then your in trouble.

Well if by "a bit of padding on a steel bar" you mean a roll cage then errr... yeah i would expect it to be some help in a crash:confused:
Anyway i think we can agree to disagree on this one.

I remember a guy was complaining about these fancy roll-cages all padded up and the cost of it when abit of lagging and cable ties would do.
Another guy got abit of piping and lagging on one end and proper padding on the other and hit him over the head with both ends right after the other to see what he thought of them.
Abit harsh but it got the point across all the same.
I've seen helmets in total shite due to impacts on un-protected roll-cage in bad crashes so when I have mine done, I'll be spending the extra bit to put the proper stuff on but if others don't think they need or could be bothered with it, their head is probably worth a little less to warrant protection too.
Think Shane was initally asking about a material that wraps your whole cage like a wrap to avoid painting it rather than actual padding though.
