in order to use the s14 5 stud front hubs with the s13 coilovers you need to make the holes in the knuckles where the coilover mounts to smaller (from 14mm to 12mm. so i turned down some stainless slieves on the laid.

ok so was up at track day performance (tdp.ie) all day today and got my geometery and suspension setup. its set to
2 1/2 neg camber on front
1 neg camber on the rear
slight toe out on both front and rear.

also got my hks evc plumbed in and set up, and got the power fc installed and mapped. so then it was time to hit the dynapack.

yellow is before the map and green is after mapping

oh and this is still with the standard turbo.

I run 235/40s on my 9Js with very very little stretch so 215/225 40s would probably work on those pretty well? But I know fuck all

Haha that some amount of torque for a standard turbo:D

My god shane thats some work you've done, did ya do it all yourself?

As for the wheels, im using 17x9.5's at the mo and for general road use i found
235/40/17's good, or mayb 235/45/17 for more comfort or to fill the arches a bit more.

For drifting mayb a 225/40/17 or 235/40/17, just keep the sidewall low!

Awsome car, thumbs up to ya, cant wait to see it finished!

is a side wall of 45 too high for drifting????

Jay Rockett
05-06-09, 20:56
Yeah, well it wouldnt be too high really but the lower the profile the better the car handles so i'd go for a 40 on a 17inch rim, and in drifting your depending on the tire rotating consantly while sideways so any flex in the tire and it'll feel real unstable! higher the profile, more flex.. basically!

I seen your thread on DW an i dont think the 2nd hand jobie is a good idea tbh? Especially coming out of a 400bhp 180 that really antruely does get driven!

Buy once shane just like how you have been doing , the thoughts of it failing you and having no come back are not worth thinking about!

What about super single for now? maybe twin even

But a trple is too much imo overkill sort of an alot of money for same effect?

If it was me an id the money id probably go twin..

Just my 2c.. :)

05-08-09, 16:12
i wasn't going to buy superclarkeys fooook no. that car get seriously used. but dave o'hara in japaneseperformance has a second hand os giken super single that he'll do for good money to me. but now that i think about it more, i haven't scrimped on anything on the car yet so why start now. guess its going to be a brand new os giken aluminium cover twin plate from japland, that way i should never need to go near it again.:)

man thats a sickner.
you'd think it would all come in a kit, an jus pop it in..
i checked mine the time i got it for a number but notin on it , jus incase came across the problem again, looked the same as standard only the bit shorter..

might be alot of hassle, but if u bolted up the clutch , and put up the box with standard bearin an sleeve, see where it wud sit..
as i was sayin to ya already, i did this an ended up with the gap of 6mm between engine an box.. so when i got the second bearin and measured them up 6 was the difference so i new i was kinda right.......

sum hugh load of fuckin hassle to fit a clutch i know, but when ya av ta get the car on the track wat choice do ya have.............

if ya do this at least ya might no wat size sleeve ya need....
fair sick of puttin up and taken down the box though haha..:D:D

was out rooting at the car today for the first time in ages, with the cold and snow etc.. time to get some more stuff done. when i bent the exhaust the last time at goldstone i riped some of the exhaust hangers so they needed to be replaced. so thats what i did.

http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0639.jpg

when ever i come in off the track it looks as tho my power steering fluid has been heating up so much that it leaks out of the cap of the reservoir, leaving a big mess in the engine bay. so i got a power steering fluid cooler and hopefully this will solve that problem.

http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0617.jpg

http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0641.jpg

http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0635.jpg

http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0636.jpg

the last time when i was out in goldstone i thought to myself that the car didn't feel as lively or responsive as it did when i was up at nuts corner, it was kind of bogging down or something, so i had a bit of a snoop around to see if there was actually something up or was i imagining things, when i spotted this.

http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0630.jpg

http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0621.jpg

http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0626.jpg

THAT LITTLE BASTARD WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BLOCKED. somehow my silicone blocking cap thingy got mangled and was no longer blocking anything. it was blocked because a hose used to come from there to the charcoal filter but that has all been removed so no need for it anymore.
i reckon thats why the car just didn't feel right.Need to sort this out also.
the only other thing was that the bolts which fixed my torque damper to the lock also disappeared during the goldstone experience and left my torque damper flailing around the engine bay. think i have that sorted now.

GReddy T518z turbo
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0650.jpg

when i got the turbo it needed a rebuild. so started to strip it.
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0658.jpg
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0659.jpg

and when i got the actuator off it, it revealed a big feckin crack in the actuator port.
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0668.jpg

so now i needed a new cartridge and a new exhaust housing.
lesson to anyone buying a secondhand turbo, take the actuator off and inspect the port cause you cant see around there when its in place.
so i got a new cartridge and new exhaust housing. the housing that came with it was a 10cm housing, after some research i went for the 8cm housing for more responce and quicker spool which should suit drifting better.
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/IMG_0645.jpg

iv looked into this a bit and the free floating bearing system that GReddy have used in these turbos are supposed to allow the turbo to spool up as quick if not quicker than many other ball bearing turbos of around the same capacity. but time will tell. we'll see when it goes on. i believe that the 10cm housing is a bit like an on off switch alright, but the 8cm is said to be a much smoother build.

so as some of you may know at the last goldstone day out, something went pop or more like bang in the gearbox which left me with no drive:mad:. and to add to things, my mate with the lift i have been using has moved to OZ. so i got stuck in and raised the roof of the garage and got a new 4 ton two post clear floor lift. so gone are the days of crawling around on the floor..

got straight onto Dean Kearney as soon as i heard he was braking the MAXXIS PS13  and snapped up his r33 rb box conversion which includes box, custom bell housing, custom solid mount and crossmember, custom one piece prop shaft. Complete bolt on setup. i am in my f**k going rebuilding or changing sr boxes every time i take the car out, so this should sort that problem. update time.

after drift jam at punchestown i had a check around the car and noticed that the loom in the wheel arch was getting worn through by the tyre.
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/damage.jpg
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/damage2.jpg

so the only thing to sort this was to move it somewhere safe and protected.
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/loom.jpg

out came the snips and labels. happy days:eek:
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/loom1.jpg

read about some people having issues with heat and melting etc....when running the loom through the engine bay, so i decided to run it up through the chassis leg itself.
i used this gland, altho not very pretty it offers better support/protection for the cables, and at the end of the day this is the whole object of this job.
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/gland.jpg

then i split the loom into 5 or 6 groups to allow them to pass through the chassis leg with ease and put conduit on each of the groups
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/loom2.jpg

then simply fed them up through the chassis leg and soldered them all back together
http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp335/thegosson/loom3.jpg

gave her a check over to see if everything was working as should, and all is 100%, great success.i like !

few smaller bits were then added.

get another key cut, one with a good meaty metal grip and cut it down to size. for this one you cut it down to 12mm by 15mm. push your key in and tighten up the grub screw. it comes with all the instructions and measurements and theres even a wee measuring tape at the side of the packet.

Wesley's going to work his magic on it. from just putting the hubs etc. on the fuuuukin lock is crazy, but the wheels are kinda hitting the arches in spots but not hitting the chassis or any arms off other arm so hopefully with some tweaking and stuff i can keep the same amount of lock but with out rubbing anywhere. time will tell. very excited to see how it turns out.(no pun intended).

Pull cords / cables for the killswitch and plumbed in fire extinguisher.

could you put an ordinary twist kill switch up there insted of them pull ones?

thegosson
01-08-11, 18:43
The twist switch is to be inside the car within reach of the driver..... There's a a little hole in the twist switch to connect the pull cable to so in the event of an accident a Marshall or anyone outside the car can shut it off if your knocked out or dare I say it " dead"

had a bit of a moment at one of the round of prodrift in mondello, well had questionable moments at all the rounds i did to honest. but this one put the car out of action for a while.

since then Ciaran "GEM" Synnott straightened the car out for me. thanks for that gem. during that incident one of my bonnet pins got pulled straight through the carbon fiber bonnet...... just to shows the strength of these things as it made a perfect bonnet pin shaped hole. so this was one of the many little things that needed to be done after the crash.

thegosson
25-02-12, 17:29
Got the turbo off rhdjapan.com. It has Apexi super suction induction kit to suit z32 AFM , z32 AFM, HKS gt-ss turbo, Nismo 555 injectors, greddy spark plugs ( heat rating 8),HKS front mount intercooler + pipes ,walbro fuel fump, aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, tomei expreme turbo elbow, HKS down pipe, kakamoto racing de-cat, blitz nur spec cat back.HKS evc 5 boost controler, Apexi power fc, mapped by TDP.
That's it I think.
